PT's JOURNEY

EARLY LIFE:

"Since the beginning I had a tough road and had to "earn my keep" everywhere I played, from pop warner to the pros. I was fortunate enough to have a rich childhood in terms of having lots of friends and a good family. I was always outside playing sports and other games with the kids from the neighborhood. Growing up, my favorite sport was baseball and my favorite player was Frank Thomas. I began playing pop warner football at the age of 12 and I have been running ever since!"

THINGS PEOPLE DON’T KNOW ABOUT ME:

Some of the guys on the team say I’m not athletic, just a tough guy.
So, there are some things people don’t know about me that I’d like to share:

  •   I grew up playing baseball and not football
  •   The first time I played organized football I was 12 years old
  •   I had to beg my momma to let me play then…she was afraid I was going to get hurt.
  •   I’m a big White Sox fan - Frank Thomas was my favorite player as a kid
  •   Often I hear people back home say I was a better baseball player than football player

The NFL

“Going undrafted was a surprise and at the same time no surprise at all.” Pierre knew he had the ability to be a first round draft pick and compete at the professional level, but he also knew that not many others believed in him as he did, well none actually.

Shortly after the draft Pierre received a call from the New Orleans Saints inviting him to attend their camp. Now it’s back to square one, competing for a roster spot against another tough rookie running back. “My work was cut out for me and I knew this was not going to be easy, but I never gave up. I always believed.” Pierre earned a spot on the roster as a rookie playing a key role on the special teams.

First Start Against the Bears

It's now late December in Pierre’s home town of Chicago, and he is going to have his first career NFL start against theBears at Soldier Field. It was laid out perfectly; first start back home with family and friends in attendance, late December against one of the most respected and feared defenses in the whole league – “I was ready for the challenge. Many people don’t know this, but I started that game with 2 cracked ribs, but that wasn't stopping me from going to battle with my team.” Pierre had arguably one of the best games of his career, 105 yards rushing, 121 yards receiving and one touchdown becoming the first Saint running back in history to rush for over 100 yards and receive for over 100 yards in the same game. This was a great way to close out a rookie season.

NFL Year Two

After a strong finish to a solid rookie season, Pierre was now competing with two great running backs for carries – Deuce McCalister and Reggie Bush. “At this point in my life, in my career, there would be no turning back, all I know is hard work and dedication - dedication to my team and to myself. Deuce, Reggie and I shared carries and battled injuries - the life of a running back. To some, it was referred to as a disappointing season. To me, it was a great learning experience. “

NFL Year Three

Pierre entered his third season feeling much more prepared than ever before. The complexity of NFL offences can be difficult to learn; now Pierre was beginning to flow naturally within the offence. “The 2009 season was absolutely amazing. We have the greatest fans in the world! Our team is more than just a team, we’re a family…and to win a Super Bowl with these guys was the ultimate gift – simply unforgettable. Who Dat!!”

Off The Field

I’m actually a pretty regular guy: love God, love to eat, love to travel, sports have always been a passion of mine, I enjoy playing video games, I’m having fun learning the guitar and always like hanging out with my family and friends.
I enjoy listening to music, you will find many different genres in my ipod. The song I listen to most before a game is Kanye West / DJ Khaled - Go Hard because that's what I try to do on the field.
My favorite tv show is family guy and I have too many favorite movies to list.
